The Federation

Mission

Our mission is to progress and promote nuclear medicine and the translation of molecular medicine throughout the many regions of the world.

The Federation promotes the science and clinical practice of nuclear medicine and supports the professional development of its community in every region. It prioritises education, especially where resources are scarcest, and works with its member societies and with the IAEA and the WHO to widen access to molecular imaging and radionuclide therapy where they are needed most.

Aims and objectives

Drawn from the Federation’s own strategy, its aims are to:

  • Coordinate and strengthen cooperation between the national and regional nuclear medicine societies, without duplicating or competing with their work.
  • Keep communication and the exchange of information flowing between the member societies.
  • Sponsor delegates and emerging leaders to take part in workshops and Federation meetings.
  • Advocate for the specialty, at scientific congresses and in the Federation’s work with the IAEA and the WHO, and plan for the promotion of nuclear medicine worldwide.
  • Widen access to training by bringing material from many sources into one place, with particular attention to developing countries.
  • Work toward common minimum standards of training for nuclear medicine specialists and a framework for credentialling.
